Drones speed up harvest in Huizhou’s mountain orchards

Above the rugged hilly orchards of Longmen County, Huizhou City, a large agricultural drone buzzes busily at work. Crates of oranges are hoisted steadily into the air, gliding over the treetops to reach the loading zone at the foot of the hill in a matter of minutes.

According to drone operators, this aerial transport solution delivers round-trip efficiency that far exceeds traditional manual labor. Drones can overcome terrain constraints, meaning complex landscapes like high mountains do not affect their operations. This not only significantly shortens transport time and reduces reliance on manual labor, but also cuts costs and boosts overall productivity. A single drone is capable of hauling 15 to 20 tons of produce in one day—with efficiency set to climb even higher on flatter terrain.

The adoption of drone technology in Huizhou is a snapshot of the region's broader push for agricultural modernization. In recent years, the continuous upgrading of agricultural technologies has been reshaping traditional farming, making production more efficient and intelligent. By cracking the transportation puzzle in mountainous areas, these intelligent machines are injecting robust momentum into rural revitalization and farmers' income growth.
