Shenzhen Nanshan hosts first indie game expo as developers meet players

Shenzhen hosted its first independent game exhibition, bringing together small developers and players in an event that highlights the city's growing creative scene.

The BIG Indie Game Expo was held at the Wanxia Center in Shenzhen's Nanshan District on January 17 and 18, featuring 49 independent games developed by teams from across China. Visitors were able to try games on-site and provide immediate feedback, allowing developers to test ideas and improve their work based on real player responses.

Organizers said the aim was not only to showcase games but also to involve players in the development process. The event also served as a meeting point for developers, publishers, and potential investors.

TLM: The Last Messages is an independent game developed by a Shenzhen-based team. In this work, players embody a "Soul's Flame" that separates from the body at the moment of life's end, ascending to the "Othershore Tower"—a realm deep within consciousness that houses the imprints of countless souls. By exploring the tower's environments, players gradually trigger fragments of memories. Through this journey of discovery and fulfillment, they embark on a path toward understanding, acceptance, and transcendence of life itself.

The publisher of "Typing Break" interacts with players.

Typing Break is a fast-paced game that blends bullet hell shooting with typing speed challenges. Unlike traditional shooters, players launch attacks by accurately inputting characters that appear on screen—typing speed directly determines the intensity of their firepower. In the game, players can also combine various affixes and weapons to develop their own combat styles.

According to the publisher, the game supports not only Simplified Chinese but also Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and other language versions.
