First nuclear fuel loading begins at CGN's Taipingling Unit 1 in Huizhou

The first nuclear fuel loading commenced on December 24 at Unit 1 of China General Nuclear Power Group's (CGN) Taipingling Nuclear Power Plant in Guangdong's Huizhou, marking the unit's full transition from construction to nuclear commissioning, a critical step toward achieving grid-connected power generation.

The first nuclear fuel loading commenced at Unit 1 of CGN's Taipingling Nuclear Power Plant in Huizhou.

As the first Hualong One nuclear power project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Unit 1 of the Taipingling plant utilizes China's independently developed third-generation nuclear power technology, Hualong One. Construction of the project began in late 2019, with plans for a total of six Hualong One units and an estimated total investment of approximately 120 billion yuan.

Upon full completion and operation, the project is expected to generate over 50 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. It will contribute over 20 billion yuan to green GDP, reduce standard coal consumption by about 15.12 million tons per year, and cut carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 41.6 million tons annually.
