Zhuhai blends intangible heritage with legal education on New Year's Day

Zhuhai in South China's Guangdong Province launched the "iZhuhai" activity on January 1, 2026, creatively combining Doumen District's intangible cultural heritage—the On-water Wedding Ceremony—with legal education. The event, organized by the city's Foreign Affairs Office and its Justice Bureau, engaged more than ten foreign participants from Canada, France, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, and Iran, showcasing the harmony between traditional culture and the rule of law.

At the wedding pier, guests watched ten couples exchange vows to 300-year-old salty-water folk songs, with lyrics incorporating provisions from China's Civil Code on marriage and family. Participants also joined a festive lantern parade featuring fish-shaped lights.

In Shilong Village, legal knowledge was shared through lantern riddles, clapper talk performances, and paper-cutting. A wedding cake workshop also served as a food safety lesson, while an orchid exhibition and rural banquet highlighted Doumen's agricultural heritage.

The "iZhuhai" program aims to deepen expatriates' connection with the city through cultural exchange, strengthening Zhuhai's role as a bridge for international understanding.
