Batch cleaning of original photos and videos to free up storage space
On March 7, WeChat launched a highly anticipated feature on both iOS and Android, aimed at helping users optimize storage space on WeChat.
In "Me > Settings > General > Storage," a new prompt appears below the cache section, informing users that the original photos and videos from chats are included in the storage. By tapping "Remove," users will see two options: "Received full images and videos" and "Sent full images and videos." After cleaning, users can still view images and videos in standard quality within chats.
Additionally, for original photos and videos deleted within 14 days, users will see a "Full Image/Video" button in the chat, allowing them to re-download within the validity period.
Moments: "Notify only when friends interact with me"
In February, WeChat soft-launched a new "Notify only when friends interact with me" feature in Moments.
When enabled, users will not receive notifications in the Discover section when friends like or comment on posts they previously interacted with. However, these notifications will still appear in your "Moments Notifications" list. This feature provides a more personalized social notification experience, helping users avoid unnecessary alerts.
How to enable it:
Go to [My Moments] > [Three dots on the top right] > [Notifications] > [Message Management] > [Notify only when friends interact with me].
WeChat expands gift-sending feature
In January, WeChat upgraded its "Gift" feature. Previously limited to one-on-one gifting, it has now expanded to group chats.
Users can now select the "Gift" feature in a WeChat group chat, choose a product from the WeChat Mini Store, and then send gifts to the group while choosing the number of gifts. Group members can claim the gift, enter their delivery address, and receive it via courier. If a gift is not claimed within 24 hours, WeChat will automatically issue a refund.
This update further enhances WeChat's social e-commerce capabilities, making gift-giving more convenient and engaging. Whether celebrating festivals, birthdays, or expressing gratitude, users can now send heartfelt gifts via group chat.
