Two Guangdong locations selected as National GI Protection Demonstration Zones

The China National Intellectual Property Administration announced a list of 54 National Geographical Indication (GI) Protection Demonstration Zones. Two locations in Guangdong were selected: the Huajuhong National GI Protection Demonstration Zone and the Luoding National GI Protection Demonstration Zone.

Maoming's Huajuhong National GI Protection Demonstration Zone is the first national-level GI protection demonstration zone in western Guangdong. Over the four years since its establishment, the annual output value of the entire industrial chain has surged from 4.9 billion yuan to 11.5 billion yuan, representing a growth of 135%. The number of enterprises authorized to use the GI logo has increased from 15 to 76, with these enterprises generating a combined annual output value of 4.2 billion yuan and accounting for 85.9% of Huajuhong's production and processing enterprises within the zone.

Located in Yunfu City, the Luoding Basin covers an area of approximately 1,300 square kilometers and is the largest, flattest, and most contiguous agricultural zone in Guangdong. At present, Luoding cinnamon, Luoding wrinkled fish tofu, Silun bamboo steamers, Luoding rice, and Luoding fermented black beans have all been recognized as national GI products. Since receiving GI protection, the combined output value of these five products has reached 2.738 billion yuan. Among them, the output value of Luoding wrinkled fish tofu has exceeded 400 million yuan, marking a year-on-year increase of 627%. Meanwhile, Luoding cinnamon has achieved an output value of 488 million yuan, up 161% year-over-year.
