On November 18, experts, scholars, and business leaders in China's medical and health sector gathered in Nansha District, Guangzhou, for a forum on high-quality hospital development and technological innovation as part of the 20th China Economic Forum.

Speaking at the event, Ma Jiehong, Deputy Head of Nansha District, stated that advances in technology, including artificial intelligence, along with China's changing demographics, are reshaping medical services and creating significant opportunities for the country's fast-growing health industry. At the same time, she noted that these changes place higher demands on healthcare development.

Nansha has become a crucial hub for medical innovation in recent years. The district has opened new high-level hospitals and platforms, including one of Guangdong's largest hematopoietic stem cell transplant centers and an international robotic surgery training center. In June 2025, China's first clinical case combining cell and gene therapy for thalassemia and liver failure was successfully completed in Nansha.
More than 400 biomedical companies are now based in the district, supported by favorable policies, cross-border medical insurance pilots, and strong investment funds.
