On the morning of April 10, Guangdong province held a press conference to announce the release of three pilot documents aimed at advancing AI-powered education in the province's primary and secondary schools. These documents include an AI literacy framework for educators, a corresponding framework for students, and a comprehensive curriculum guideline for teaching AI in schools. Together, these form a "2+1" strategy, laying the foundation for the widespread adoption of AI in education across Guangdong.

The teacher framework outlines five core areas: AI awareness, educational philosophy, knowledge and skills, practical classroom applications, and social responsibility. Meanwhile, the student framework focuses on the ethical use of technology and the cultivation of computational thinking skills. Notably, Guangdong is the leading province in China to introduce and develop these two documents, setting a national precedent.

The curriculum guideline sets clear targets for different age groups. Younger students will be introduced to the fundamental concepts of AI, while older students will explore more advanced topics, such as machine learning and AI ethics. The guideline also specifies the minimum number of AI-related classroom hours each year, which range from no fewer than six hours for grades 1 to 4, at least 10 hours for grades 5 and 6, to a minimum of one hour every two weeks for grades 7 and 8.

Guangdong stands at the forefront of technological development in China, leading the country in 5G, cloud computing, and big data infrastructure. The province is also home to many of China's top technology companies. With its strong technological foundation, Guangdong has ensured that all primary and secondary schools are connected to broadband, with over 99 percent of classrooms equipped with multimedia devices—making the digitalization of education increasingly accessible.
