The Guangzhou Traffic Police (@广州交警) have issued a report on a serious traffic accident that occurred earlier today (July 1) in the city's Yuexiu District.
At approximately 11:00 AM, a vehicle lost control and struck several pedestrians near Zhongshan 1st Road, resulting in three fatalities and three injuries. Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene, and the injured were promptly transported to the hospital for treatment.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the driver, a 64-year-old man identified as Chen, was distracted by looking at his mobile phone while driving, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle.
Chen has been detained by police, and initial assessments have ruled out alcohol or drug use as contributing factors. The incident remains under further investigation.
