Guangdong province saw a 5.99 percent year-on-year decrease in public security-related criminal cases, a 4.9 percent drop in criminal filings, and an 11.1 percent increase in case resolutions in 2023, according to a press conference held by the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department (GPPSD) on Tuesday.
The press conference was held one day before the fourth Chinese People's Police Day, which falls on January 10 every year, to summarize the performance of Guangdong police in 2023.

For Guangdong is located in south China, adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions (SARs), the GPPSD has been actively implementing the northbound travel policies for the two SARs, to ensure the smooth cross-border travel for vehicles between Hong Kong, Macao, and Chinese mainland, stated Liu Jingxi, deputy director of the Office of GPPSD.

January 10 also marks China's national 110 Publicity Day. It has been 38 years since Guangzhou Public Security Bureau took the lead in establishing China's first 110 emergency hotline in 1986. Liu stressed that 110 is a life-saving hotline, and that citizens encountering non-urgent circumstances can dial the 12345 government service hotline for professional assistance.
Public security organs across Guangdong will continue to enrich the emergency services through various channels including 110 hotline, 12110 SMS number, and online services, stated Liu.
