The 2025 Silk Road TV Community Summit opened on Sunday in Yangjiang, Guangdong Province, under the theme of "Smart Media Empowers, Maritime Silk Road Embarks Anew."
Nearly 300 representatives from media outlets, academic institutions, cultural and tech enterprises across 20 countries and regions, as well as international organizations, attended the event.
Shen Haixiong, vice minister of the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and president of China Media Group (CMG), noted in his speech that the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has evolved from infrastructure and rule-based connectivity to deeper people-to-people bonds. As a pioneer of reform and opening-up, Guangdong is fully integrating into the BRI and achieving new progress in modernization. He emphasized the need to uphold the Silk Road spirit of "peaceful cooperation, openness, inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit" amid global uncertainties, vowing CMG's commitment to deepening international media cooperation, advancing the "Four Global Initiatives," and contributing to building a community with a shared future for humanity.
Hu Jinjun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China, Guangdong Provincial Committee and director of the Provincial Publicity Department, highlighted that the summit aligns with the new development stage of Chinese modernization. He invited global partners to leverage Guangdong's opportunities, strengthen cultural exchanges, and jointly write a new chapter of win-win cooperation.
Leaders from the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU), and African Union of Broadcasting (AUB) addressed the summit via video, hailing it as a reliable platform for deepening media collaboration and shaping the future media landscape.
Joseph Maina Mururi, chairman of Kenya's Media Council, said that digital technology is reshaping information dissemination. He advocated leveraging the BRI to link Africa's vibrant markets with China's technological strengths, fostering a media community that amplifies diverse voices and bridges cultural gaps.
Jiang Haiqing, chairman of China International Television Corporation, released the community's annual report and the "Yangjiang Initiative for International Media Cooperation: Silk Road Links Oceans, Wisdom Creates Future." The initiative calls for strengthening tech-enabled media cooperation, promoting green development, and telling compelling stories of the Maritime Silk Road.
During panel discussions, participants focused on international media cooperation, cultural exchanges, and industrial applications of AI-generated content. Several projects were launched, including international communication campaigns, a co-produced micro-documentary, multilingual translations of FAST TV programs, and CGTN Spanish's broadcast in Latin America.
Founded in 2016, the Silk Road TV Community is the world's first global all-media alliance themed on the Silk Road, initiated by China International Television Corporation under CMG's guidance. It now boasts 149 member institutions from 64 countries and regions, serving as a key platform for cross-border film and television exchanges.
