"It's like they're in a big prison. Everyone is waiting to die. They're not waiting for the war to end or anything. They've lost all hope," said Yousef, a Gaza resident, in a recent interview with GDToday.
As the Gaza war enters its second year, more than 40,000 Palestinians have been killed, including over 16,000 children, and more than 96,000 have been injured in the Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip, following the deadly Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza.
What is it like to live in Gaza? Why have so many Palestinians chosen to remain in this deadly region? What are the challenges of fleeing the war zone? GDToday's special report, Gaza: From Open-air Prison to Slaughterhouse, explores these questions in depth.
