A group of 70 teenagers from Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions (SARs), and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has gathered in Kashgar for a five-day cultural and sports exchange program from August 16 to 20. The initiative aims to promote friendship and mutual understanding among participants through football matches, traditional art workshops, and joint performances.
Football plays a central role in the exchange, with friendly matches scheduled among teams from different regions. The program also provides educational opportunities, including visits to the Taklamakan Desert's vast green barrier, a key anti-desertification project, and historical landmarks like the Kashgar Museum.
For many, the trip is their first opportunity to experience Xinjiang's landscapes, cuisine, and heritage. Beyond building friendships, the program underscores China's efforts to enhance cross-regional understanding and engage youth in cultural and environmental initiatives.
