HKSAR CE leads delegation on visit to Macao and Hengqin

On August 5, Sam Hou Fai, Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), welcomed John KC Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), at the Macao SAR government headquarters.

They held in-depth discussions on enhancing Hong Kong-Macao collaboration across multiple sectors—particularly tourism co-development—advancing high-quality growth in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), and exploring new opportunities arising from the second-phase development of the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.

Sam emphasized that as core GBA cities driving regional progress, both SARs are elevating their levels of cooperation. He pointed out that joint efforts in promoting high-quality industrial and technological innovation will generate greater mutual benefits across the GBA.

Regarding the Hengqin cooperation zone—a vital platform for Macao's GBA integration and economic diversification—Sam noted that the Macao SAR Government has established an administrative group to promote the construction of the Cooperation Zone, strengthening policy, legal, staffing, and resource support aligned with the 'Macao + Hengqin' positioning. He extended an invitation for more Hong Kong enterprises to jointly seize second-phase development opportunities and share in the dividends of high-quality growth.

During his tour of Hengqin, Lee visited the TCM Cultural Experience Hall at the Guangdong-Macao Traditional Chinese Medicine Industrial Park, observing the integrated development of traditional Chinese medicine with cultural tourism. At the Hengqin Planning Exhibition Hall, he held discussions with officials on the Cooperation Zone's governance models, development achievements, and future strategies.
