When the wind, waves, tides and sunlight create proper conditions, the waters in some sea areas of Zhanjiang turn remarkably clear, making the world originally hidden beneath the sea surface clearly visible.

Local people call such a sea the "glass sea". The phenomenon is not permanent. The visibility of seawater can be affected by tides, wind, waves, rainfall and coastal sediment. Only when proper conditions appear will the sea open a transparent window, allowing Zhanjiang's underwater landscape to be fully shown.
