The 47th World Congress of Vine and Wine and the 24th General Assembly of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), alongside the 6th China (Ningxia) International Wine Culture and Tourism Expo, opened in Yinchuan on Oct. 12. The congress is being held in Asia for the first time, with discussions on viticulture, winemaking, economics, law, safety and health through Oct. 16.
Ningxia is home to more than 600,000 mu (about 40,000 hectares) of vineyards and 261 wineries. The region produces around 140 million bottles of wine annually, nearly half of China's total winery-produced wine. The expo, running through Oct. 14, features around 50 wineries from seven countries and more than 150 Chinese wineries.
