Tens of thousands of people flocked to Daliang, Shunde, Foshan, during the National Day holiday to see its traditional fish lanterns illuminate the night.
Made with bamboo frames and gauze scales, the glowing fish lanterns appear to swim through the streets when carried in a parade.
Dating back 600 years, the tradition was revived by Shengping Community in 2020 and added to Shunde's intangible cultural heritage list in 2025.
Today, inheritors preserve traditional techniques while young designers bring fish lantern aesthetics into modern life.
This year's festival featured giant 6-meter and 10-meter fish lanterns and a parade of more than 300 participants. Visitors could also explore the tradition in Shengping Community through lantern-making activities, exhibitions and a fish-lantern-themed banquet.
