At a media event during China's Two Sessions in Beijing, I unexpectedly became a translator for a new friend from Pakistan.
After the event ended, while most people had already left, he stayed behind — eager to continue talking with deputies from Guangdong and explore potential cooperation opportunities.
The journalist, Irfan Ashraf from Samaa TV, said he was particularly interested in China's progress in artificial intelligence and healthcare. In his view, China has become a global hub of technology, with strong capabilities in areas ranging from AI and robotics to mobile devices and imaging technology.
He hopes more Chinese companies can expand to Pakistan, where a young and skilled workforce is ready to collaborate with Chinese partners on future innovation.
He also expressed a strong interest in promoting exchanges between Chinese deputies and Pakistan's government and think tanks, with the goal of encouraging cooperation in AI, medical care, and chemical manufacturing.
The conversation ended with a familiar phrase often used to describe China-Pakistan relations: the friendship between the two countries is "higher than mountains and deeper than oceans."
Sometimes, a simple conversation at the Two Sessions can become a small bridge connecting people, and maybe even future cooperation.
