AI Fits: Guangdong Edition | From court to culture, round four unfolds

As the Guangdong City Basketball League (Yue BA) moves on to its fourth round on April 18, the tournament is picking up pace, with each game offering more than just competition.

In a fresh blend of sports and culture, a series of AI-generated posters captures the spirit of 21 outstanding teams through iconic landmarks and cultural symbols representing each city.

Shaoguan: Mount Danxia & Nanhua Temple

Shaoguan's jersey draws directly from the landscape that defines it. At its centre is Mount Danxia, set within a UNESCO Global Geopark and known for its distinctive red sandstone formations. Shaped over millions of years, its towering cliffs and vivid hues have become a defining symbol of the region's raw, natural beauty.

But the design also reflects a quieter, more spiritual side. Subtle patterns echo traditional Yao embroidery, geometric motifs passed down through generations, alongside the silhouette of Nanhua Temple, a major centre of Zen Buddhism in China. With a history of more than 1,500 years, the temple continues to attract those seeking reflection and peace.

The colour palette brings these elements together: deep reds inspired by Danxia's cliffs, set against forest greens that mirror the lush landscapes of northern Guangdong. Fine, gear-like details add a contemporary vibe, nodding to Shaoguan's role as an industrial hub.

The result is a design in which nature, culture, and modern industry coexist in balance.

Heyuan: Wanlü Lake, Guifeng Pagoda & Dinosaur Egg Fossils

Heyuan's jersey is shaped by water and history. At its centre is Wanlv Lake, literally meaning "Ten Thousand Greens", one of the largest freshwater lakes in southern China known for its clear waters, forested islands, and rolling hills.

Overlooking the lake is Guifeng Pagoda, an ancient tower anchoring the city's long cultural past. The tower has been standing by the Dongjiang River since 1132, the second year of the Shaoxing era in the Southern Song Dynasty.

But Heyuan is perhaps best known for something far older. Often called China's "Hometown of Dinosaurs", the area has yielded more than 20,000 dinosaur egg fossils. The jersey implies this legacy through oval patterns inspired by fossil shapes, subtly woven into the design.

A palette of jade green and warm gold reflects both the lake's calm waters and the reddish soil where fossils are found. Together, these elements create a design that connects Heyuan's natural beauty with its prehistoric past, inviting a closer look beneath the surface.

As the competition heats up, why not turn the tournament into an inspiration for your travel inspiration? Each city is waiting to be discovered.
