Recent typhoons in Guangdong have brought continuous rain during commutes, leading to waterlogged streets. Many people choose to wear slippers to wade through water for convenience. However, this habit may lead to serious consequences!
According to the National Emergency Broadcasting, in May this year, a man in Guangzhou encountered a sudden rainstorm and chose to wade through water without changing shoes all day. The next day, he developed a 40℃ fever and a red, swollen, painful left leg, diagnosed with the skin disease erysipelas. Doctors explained that prolonged immersion in rainwater compromised skin barriers, causing a Streptococcus infection, which could lead to sepsis if not treated promptly.
