On July 29, 23 companies from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) made the 2025 Fortune Global 500 list, up one from 2024, with 18 headquartered in Guangdong and 5 in Hong Kong SAR.
The listed enterprises from Guangdong are concentrated in the Guangzhou and Shenzhen metropolitan areas, with 9 based in Shenzhen, 6 in Guangzhou, 2 in Foshan, and 1 in Dongguan.
The 23 enterprises generated $1.47 trillion in revenue in 2024, accounting for 13.7% of the $10.7 trillion aggregate revenue from China's 130 Fortune Global 500 companies, up from 12.7% a year earlier.
The industrial structure of the GBA demonstrates a deep convergence between traditional and emerging sectors. The listed enterprises span diverse fields, including finance, electric power, internet, automotive manufacturing, real estate, transportation and logistics, and pharmaceuticals.
The region’s manufacturing strength remains, with ranked firms encompassing both traditional segments like home appliances and automobiles, as well as emerging industries such as biomedicine and new-generation information technology.
Among them, Ping An Insurance retained its position as the highest-ranked GBA enterprise, placing 47th. Chinese automakers, particularly in electric vehicles, accelerated their global expansion, with BYD achieving its first-time entry into the Global Top 100 at 91st place after a leap of 52 ranks. High-tech enterprises delivered standout performances. Huawei returned to the Top 100 after a two-year absence, with revenue approaching $120 billion, while Luxshare Precision recorded the fastest progress by soaring 65 spots to 423rd position.
