Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao to build a world-class open innovation ecosystem

Guangdong outlined its 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) for Economic and Social Development at a press conference on May 26.

Wang Yueqin, Director General of the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, outlined a plan to jointly build a world-class open innovation ecosystem with Hong Kong and Macao.

"We will leverage the international strengths of Hong Kong and Macao and their role as bridges connecting with the world," Wang said. "Together, we will participate in global sci-tech innovation cooperation."

Guangdong will attract more research institutions, multinational corporations, and venture capital firms to establish a presence or set up branches in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The region will jointly launch or take part in international large-scale science programs and major science projects, and deeply engage in the Belt and Road Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation Action Plan.

On talent development, the three sides will promote coordinated talent attraction and nurturing, and jointly build a high-level talent hub.
