APEC SOM1 delegate: Resource integration and innovation in Greater Bay Area are impressive

"What impresses me most is the way resource management, industry, innovation, and trade are closely linked here, and the influence of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area," said Yuan Derun, Senior Programme Officer at Network of Aquaculture Centre in Asia-Pacific, in an interview with South on February 6 in Guangzhou.

The First Senior Officials' Meeting and Related Meetings (SOM1) of APEC China 2026 is being held in Guangzhou, in southern China, from February 1 to 10.

As a frequent visitor to Guangzhou, Yuan described the city as vibrant and welcoming, citing its pleasant climate, dynamic urban environment, and rich culinary culture.

He also noted that his familiarity with local institutions has deepened his understanding of how the Greater Bay Area is driving integrated regional development.
