The Asia-Pacific Media Forum will open on Saturday in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province, as the country hosts a series of events under the 2026 APEC "China Year."
The forum is themed "Building a Path to Shared Prosperity for the Asia-Pacific Community: Media Consensus and Action."
Prior to the forum, participating guests are visiting cities in Guangdong, including Guangzhou, Foshan, Dongguan, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Zhongshan.
During a visit to Dongguan on September 3, Rebecca Fannin, founder of Silicon Dragon, reflected on how perceptions on Chinese innovation have changed. She said that the launch of DeepSeek, which quickly became a sensation, surprised many people in the West, who did not expect China to develop a large language model that was both highly efficient and cost-effective. Fannin noted that while China was once seen as being good at copying and faced skepticism over its innovation, there is now "a new respect" for Chinese innovation that was not seen even ten years ago.
