Why is this 13.83 square kilometer town in Dongguan known as the "Hometown of Weightlifting"?
In front of the world's first weightlifting-themed museum, we will explore the story behind the "Hometown of Weightlifting." In 1956, Chen Jingkai from Shilong set a world record for China with a lift of 133 kilograms. In the years since then, more than a thousand weightlifting athletes have emerged from Shilong, breaking world records 19 times and producing 29 world champions.
This weightlifting museum preserves the original traces of old training facilities, housing over 6,000 precious exhibits, including Chen Jingkai's Olympic silver medal. From the traditional practice of "lifting stones" to establishing the first national weightlifting training school, Shilong showcases its deep heritage and the legacy of "Strength and Dreams" to the world.
From November 10 to November 20, the weightlifting events of the 15th National Games are being held at the gymnasium of Dongguan Shilong Middle School. In December, the weightlifting events of the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympics will also be held here.
