From Oct 17 to 18, the 2026 Peak Lion King Contest was held at Lingnan Xintiandi in Chancheng, Foshan. Teams from Foshan, Hong Kong SAR, Shenzhen and Nanjing in China, as well as from Malaysia and Thailand, gathered here. Lion dance masters from home and abroad shared skills on stage in this grand cross-continental cultural event.
Lion dance links global Chinese communities. The art is a spiritual bond for overseas Chinese to cherish memories of their homeland. Previously, Chancheng launched the Global Tour of Traditional Southern Lion Dance Exhibition. Its first stop was in Malaysia. It boosted cultural exchanges between lion dance inheritors of the two countries.
At present, China and Malaysia are jointly nominating lion dance for the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. By adopting the "go global and bring in" approach, Foshan is helping this culture spread worldwide.
