Yangxi County taps livestreamers, influencers to promote farm produce

Yangxi County in Guangdong's Yangjiang City launched a campaign on August 28 to promote its farm produce through livestreaming, overseas social media and in-person tastings. The drive is part of a provincial push to develop county-level economies.

The "media+" campaign, organized by the Publicity Department of the CPC Yangxi County Committee and the Yangjiang Bureau of Nanfang Daily, kicked off with a ceremony at the county's "Media+" Agricultural Products Promotion Service Station.

The campaign features an on-site exhibition and livestream shopping sessions across several media platforms. It has also brought influencers from Ukraine, South Korea and Türkiye to the county for a two-day tour of oyster farms, a cultural art village, coastal wetlands and a wind power town.

Yangxi was named among the first batch of model counties designated under the High-quality Development Project for Guangdong Counties, Towns and Villages. It has since positioned itself as a leader in marine energy, with 5.3 gigawatts of grid-connected offshore wind capacity, which the county government says is the highest among all counties nationwide.

Yangxi is also famous for its oysters and is often referred to as China's Oyster Hometown.
