From historic architecture to festive lanterns, Guangzhou offers a glimpse of Lingnan's distinctive culture this National Day holiday.
At the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, intricate wood, brick, stone and ceramic carvings showcase the craftsmanship of traditional Lingnan architecture. Built in the late 19th century, the complex was originally established as a gathering place for members of the Chen clan from across Guangdong.
In Yongqing Fang, historic arcades, traditional homes and narrow lanes preserve the character of old Xiguan, while cafés, creative spaces and cultural venues bring new life to the historic neighborhood. The area is also known for Cantonese opera, traditional crafts and local customs.
After dark, head to Guangzhou Cultural Park, where the annual Mid-Autumn lantern festival brings Lingnan traditions to life through colorful lanterns, folk customs and festive activities. First launched in 1956, the lantern festival is one of Guangzhou's longest-running Mid-Autumn traditions. This year's event runs through October 7.
Three stops, one holiday and many ways to experience the charm of Lingnan.
