President of the Cambodia Teochew Chamber of Commerce on promoting two-way trade between China and Cambodia

Chen Liehao, President of the Cambodia Teochew Chamber of Commerce, says the chamber is working to promote two-way trade between China and Cambodia. "We are exporting Chinese products and also bringing Cambodia's quality goods to China," he said.

He notes that the development of his hometown has greatly encouraged overseas Chinese in Cambodia. "We can see the rapid changes in our hometown and how its products are reaching the world."

The chamber is helping bring Guangdong products to Cambodia and from there to global markets. It is also encouraging Chinese enterprises to move to Cambodia and use the country as a base for re-exporting Chinese products globally.

Looking ahead, Chen says the chamber plans to develop a special economic zone to attract Chinese enterprises and sell Guangdong products globally. It also hopes to add its own port. The goal is to promote the culture and products of his hometown, those of Guangdong Province, and even quality products from across China, using bonded factory warehouses and overseas warehouses to promote these products globally in an integrated and systematic way.

The chamber is also building bridges in the other direction. At the Teochew Overseas Chinese Hall in Jieyang, it hopes to carry out economic and trade cooperation, exporting Chinese products while also bringing Cambodian goods to China. This would allow people in his hometown to share Cambodian rice, cashew nuts, pepper, chili peppers and many other tropical products, which Chen describes as very good products.

Through these efforts, Chen and the Cambodia Teochew Chamber of Commerce aim to connect Guangdong, Cambodia and the wider world—supporting Chinese enterprises going global while bringing Cambodian specialties to Chinese consumers.
