Liu Qingyi defends title of Women's Breaking Dance at China's 15th National Games

The curtain of the Women's Breaking Dance at the 15th National Games was pulled down in Guangzhou on November 18, as Liu Qingyi, a 20-year-old B-Girl from Henan Province, defended her title in the final with a thrilling victory.

Liu, better known as B-Girl 671, was the bronze medalist of the 2024 Pairs Olympic Games and champion of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.

Facing a challenge from Guo Pu, a B-Girl from Shandong Province, Liu remained composed from the beginning of the game. When the popular Chinese rap song Da Zhan Hong Tu was played, Liu incorporated elements of Chinese martial arts into her moves, responding to Guo's complex combinations with frequent power moves and freezes.

The skillful and powerful moves from both players drew cheers and resounding applause from the audience.

In the second and third rounds, Guo attacked with Thomas flares, but Liu's steps perfectly synced with the drumbeats of the song.

In the judges' final vote, Liu clinched a narrow 2-1 victory, securing her second career National Games gold medal.

"I used to attach importance to every move, but I want to express myself through my own style. That is the reason why I have this hairstyle, staying true to who I am," Liu told a reporter after the match.

"Although I lost the game, it is also a good opportunity for me to discover my weaknesses. I will keep dancing breaking because it shows my character and my thoughts. I really enjoy every move I make while listening to music," said Guo.

Zeng Yingying from Zhejiang secured the bronze medal.
