Guangdong-made projector turns any desk into touchscreen

What if any ordinary desk could be transformed into a touchscreen tablet? Shadow Technology, a Zhuhai-based tech firm, has made that possible with its desktop interactive touch projector, or "virtual tablet."

The device projects a touch-sensitive display directly onto any flat surface, allowing users to draw, practice handwriting and tap to control functions, much like on a conventional tablet. It combines projection display with touch-control technologies and comes with built-in educational software. The device is also designed to be easier on the eyes, one of its main selling points compared with other products currently on the market.

The company said the product is aimed primarily at families using it for home education. It has already reached overseas markets including the United States, Brazil and Southeast Asia, with Thailand and Malaysia the main markets in the region. According to the company, overseas customers have responded enthusiastically, describing the product as novel and innovative.

From an idea born in Zhuhai, Guangdong, to homes around the world, this compact projector serves as an example of the province's strength in technological innovation.
