A delegation from the Korea-China Economic and Cultural Education Association visited Guangzhou on May 27 and 28 to explore the city's latest advances in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and drone technology.
During the two-day visit, the delegation toured Haixinsha Technology Island and EHang, a leading Chinese company specializing in autonomous aerial vehicles.
The visit offered participants a first-hand look at how advanced technologies are being applied in real-world urban scenarios, from robotics to unmanned systems, highlighting Guangzhou's rapid transformation into a global innovation hub.
Delegation members said they were impressed by the city's technological development.
Cho Sung-yong, executive director of the association's Jeju Branch, said he was particularly struck by Guangzhou's progress in AI.
"I have visited Guangzhou before as a tourist, but today I was truly amazed by how advanced its development is in the field of artificial intelligence," Cho said.
Cho also highlighted the use of robotics in urban maintenance. "What impressed us most was seeing robots performing high-rise building cleaning operations," he noted.
According to Cho, such technologies could become increasingly important in South Korea, where labor costs are rising, and safety regulations are becoming stricter. "These kinds of robots are becoming essential for South Korea," he added.
Another delegation member, Kim Jaelin, president of the association's Jeju Branch, emphasized the potential for regional pilot cooperation.
"I believe that China's unmanned systems and AI technologies could first be implemented in Jeju as a pilot demonstration," Kim said. "We could position Jeju as a pilot region."
Kim also highlighted the complementary strengths of China and South Korea in technology. "China's vast data resources and AI capabilities, combined with South Korea's semiconductor technologies, could make us strong global partners," Kim said. "If the two countries integrate their strengths, we could become very competitive globally."
Kim further described Guangdong's innovation ecosystem as transformative.
"It is not only a manufacturing hub, but also a global incubator of technological trends and innovation," he said. "I felt this region is moving faster than anywhere else toward a realized future."
