Guangdong's booming AI and robots go global: Press journey to frontline

From June 10 to 12, journalists from the UK, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong SAR visited Guangdong to explore how the province is emerging as a global hub for AI and robotics. The press tour spotlighted leading companies such as UBTECH, Topstar, OPPO, Meituan, and Das Intellitech.

At UBTECH, a humanoid robot amazed visitors by recognizing their drawings and retrieving cola from the fridge with its flexible arms and fingers. As UBTECH engineer Zhao Quan explained, humanoid robots can now integrate more naturally into spaces designed for people, making them valuable in the connection aspect of the industrial line in the digital and mobility fields.

Topstar Vice President Frank Jiang emphasized how their automation systems, including robotic arms and smart manufacturing platforms, help overseas clients improve yield, reduce labor costs, and enhance safety in challenging workshop environments. Their one-stop automation solutions are experiencing growing demand worldwide, even in the current complex trade environment.

Meanwhile, Das Intellitech showcased how it has integrated large language models like DeepSeek into its upgraded IoT platform. Chairman Liu Bang highlighted the dual use of traditional AI to manage devices and generative AI to assist people.

This press tour provided a close-up view of how Guangdong's AI and robotics industries are not only transforming local manufacturing but also expanding globally. China has ambitious plans for AI and robotics development, and Guangdong is stepping up to become one of the powerhouses.
