Who would've thought you could see the Māori haka right here?
On the evening of June 13, the Ngā Hau e Whā Aotearoa Dragon Boat Team from New Zealand arrived in Diejiao, Nanhai, Foshan. They kicked things off with a powerful haka performance, sampled local dragon boat dishes and Cantonese dim sum, and communicated with local dragon boat teams face to face.
This team won the championship at the 2025 China Miluo River International Dragon Boat Invitational Tournament. But this time, they will face something completely different—the Diejiao Dragon Boat Drifting Race, known as "water F1". They also plan to conduct night training here. During the Dragon Boat Festival, they will take on the "L-turn" and "C-turn" courses. It's not just about strength and speed—it's also a test of precision and control through the turns.
When a championship team from the South Pacific meets one of China's most challenging dragon boat courses, what wonderful moments will unfold?
Let's wait and see.
