Guangdong men's basketball team advanced to the final of the 15th National Games after a 92-73 victory over long-time rivals Liaoning in Dongguan on the night of November 11. The win sets up a championship clash with Zhejiang the next evening.
In the semifinal, Guangdong took control early through fast transitions and efficient shooting. Led by Zhao Rui, who scored 11 points in the first quarter, Guangdong ended the opening period ahead 28-15.
Liaoning briefly narrowed the gap in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to six points, but Guangdong responded with a balanced attack featuring key plays from Xu Jie and Zhou Peng, maintaining a double-digit lead at halftime, 45-37.
Liaoning mounted a comeback after the break, bringing the score within one point midway through the third quarter. However, Guangdong's quick adjustments on both ends, including a late-quarter surge led by Xu Jie's three-pointer and Zhao Rui's assists, restored their momentum. The team entered the final period up 66–54.
In the final quarter, Guangdong's offense fired from multiple positions, with Xu Jie, He Xining, Du Runwang, and Shen Zijie combining seamlessly. The team extended the lead to a game-high 19 points and ultimately secured a 92-73 victory over Liaoning.
With the win, Guangdong remained unbeaten in the tournament. The team had finished first in their group with three straight victories, including a 93-65 win over Zhejiang.
