PNG official: Plans underway for civil servant exchanges with Guangdong

The APEC Economies China Studies Scholars Forum kicked off on June 12 in Guangzhou to pool academic insight on APEC economies' development.

Lahui Ako, APEC Advisor to the Chief Secretary of Papua New Guinea, highlighted the role of Guangdong as a key economic hub driving regional development and international cooperation. He noted that PNG–Guangdong ties are expanding beyond trade into education, culture, and research. He emphasized deeper engagement through scholar exchanges, idea-sharing, and training programs for junior civil servants, including opportunities with Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.

Looking ahead, he said 2026, the 50th anniversary of PNG–China relations, should mark a renewed push for a stronger, mutually beneficial partnership over the next 50 years.
