Take a slow walk in Xishuangbanna, the "Plant Kingdom" in southwestern China and you will notice the local trees can "talk".
Over 900 trees, covering over 100 species in Xishuangbanna, are fitted with QR code tags. Visitors can scan the code to receive audio introductions of each tree species and view detailed English descriptions, allowing visitors to learn about local plant biodiversity easily.
Bordering Southeast Asia, Xishuangbanna features a tropical climate and preserves China's most complete tropical ecosystems. It hosts more than 5,000 higher plant species.
The smart plant introduction system project has launched its first batch of tags on streets, in hotels and restaurants in Xishuangbanna. In the next two years, the smart plant popularization system will be expanded to all public and tourism spaces across the region.
