Chief Executive Officer of BERNAMA: Technology must enhance journalism, not replace it

On September 5, the Asia-Pacific Media Forum kicked off in Shenzhen, Guangdong. The theme for this year is "Building a Path to Shared Prosperity for the Asia-Pacific Community: Media Consensus and Action."

Nur-ul Afida Binti Kamaludin, chief executive officer of Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA), noted at the forum that AI is transforming newsrooms, helping journalists analyze data, track developments and produce content more efficiently.

But she also warned that the same technology can fuel misinformation and manipulated content on an unprecedented scale, making accuracy and public trust more important than ever.

She stressed that technology should empower journalism, not replace its core values of accuracy, balance, fairness, transparency and accountability.
