German politician: Modernity is not a Western monopoly

A delegation of German and Swiss politicians has been visiting Guangdong Province since April 22, with stops in Zhuhai and Guangzhou. The group explored key industries, including traditional Chinese medicine, e-commerce, and electric vehicles.

During the delegation's visit, Markus Pohle, a member of the Executive Committee of Germany's Left Party, sat down for an exclusive interview with GDToday.

"It's clear that a significant amount of economic power is concentrated here," said Pohle. "Both Chinese and German industries have a strong interest in producing new energy vehicles. I believe this is an area for closer cooperation."

Pohle also expressed admiration for China's level of modernization.

"The idea that modernity is solely a Western phenomenon, and that the rest of the world will simply adapt to it, is outdated," he stated.

He added, "Western countries must recognize that modernity is not something they have a monopoly on."

Discussing China's role in global governance, Pohle emphasized the country's success in lifting its population out of poverty.

"No one should have to live in poverty," he said, "because this planet produces enough goods to meet everyone's needs if we distribute them more equitably."

Pohle expressed his hope that China will continue to take its place on the global stage and assist other countries in achieving similar successes.
