Marwa's diary: From a tiny island in Africa to a big dream at SYSU

2026 marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Africa, as well as the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges. Over the past seven decades, countless stories of friendship have unfolded between China and Africa. Msa Mliva Marwa is such an example.

Hailing from the Comoros, a small island nation in Africa, Marwa is now a medical student at Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Her father walked the same halls as a neurology student years ago. Following in his footsteps, Marwa is pursuing her own dream in anatomy and clinical medicine, while overcoming language barriers and homesickness. With encouragement from her father and support from friends and professors, she has gradually regarded Guangzhou as her second home.
