Right now, I'm in Diejiao, a village in Foshan's Nanhai District. And in just a moment, a very special dragon boat race is about to begin.
The Diejiao Dragon Boat Drift Race is known locally as the "F1 on water." Unlike traditional straight-line dragon boat races, the course here features a sharp L-shaped turn. Racers have to steer 20-meter-long dragon boats through narrow canals, pulling off high-difficulty maneuvers like rapid acceleration, hard braking, and sharp right-angle turns.
Everyone has to move in perfect sync— otherwise, the boat will capsize. It's also a test of strength, endurance, and teamwork.
Over the next few Saturday nights, teams will continue training in nighttime practice races. And when the Dragon Boat Festival arrives, the final showdown will begin.
