Recently, the Second Guangdong Friendship Award ceremony was held in Guangzhou. Li Daxi, chairman of the Chinese Association for Science and Business in the United States, was among the award recipients. The association he founded has long been committed to building bridges between science and industry and between China and the world.
The Guangdong Friendship Award is an honorary award established by Guangdong Province to recognize foreign nationals who have made outstanding contributions to Guangdong's economic and social development and its international exchanges. A total of 47 foreign experts and international friends from 21 countries received the Second Guangdong Friendship Award.
"This award is not only recognition of the work we have done over the years, but also encouragement for us to continue contributing to exchanges between the two countries on the journey ahead," Li said. His ancestral home is Puning, Guangdong, making this honor from his hometown especially meaningful.
"Serving as a bridge is what we have always done." Li said that in 1997, he initiated the establishment of the association, whose mission is to build a bridge between science and industry and between China and the world. The association has always regarded Guangdong as its most important base for exchanges and a bridgehead.
In 1999, Li established a venture capital company to support overseas students and science and technology professionals returning to China to start businesses. He later helped establish the Shenzhen Overseas Chinese High-Tech Venture Park, which has incubated more than 1,000 companies to date, including Netac, Xunlei and Appotronics.
