Foreign travel bloggers praise Zhaoqing: "Every step brings a surprise!"

"We just arrived in Zhaoqing, and the night view here is absolutely stunning!" This is how Pat from the UK and Giulia from Italy, the couple behind the popular travel channel "P&G see China (P&G看中国)," described their first impression of Zhaoqing, a city in Guangdong they now call "Guangdong's best-kept secret."

In one of their most-liked videos, with over 30,000 "likes," the duo visits the Seven Star Crags Arch Square, marveling at the scenery. "This is Zhaoqing; what a beautiful view!" Pat exclaims in the clip, adding, "It's a city you may never have heard of, but it's absolutely gorgeous!"

In another video, they share how tired they felt after months of travel, struggling to find novelty in their surroundings until they arrived in Zhaoqing. The picturesque landscapes, vibrant night scenes, and locals enjoying drinks by the lake reignited their excitement. Strolling along the lakeside, surrounded by mountains and shimmering lights, they described the experience as "a surprise with every step."

"It's truly magical and so underrated. These are places people hardly talk about, yet they are even more astonishing than some famous spots," Giulia reflects. "Here, you don't just find stories; you feel a more authentic atmosphere."

Often overlooked, Zhaoqing is emerging as a hidden treasure within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). With its unique geographical advantages, profound historical heritage, great development potential, and breathtaking natural beauty, the city is steadily stepping into the spotlight.

Here are some of the landmarks Pat and Giulia explored in Zhaoqing:

As the city's symbolic landmark and public living room, the square faces the Seven Star Crags and overlooks Xinghu. The grand arch itself is a classic photo spot, while the spacious square is a popular gathering place for locals to walk, fly kites, or enjoy cultural events. At night, the music fountain and light displays create a captivating atmosphere.

This area consists of three major attractions: the Seven Star Crags, Dinghu Mountain, and Xinghu National Wetland Park. Known as the "First Wonder of Lingnan," the Seven Star Crags are seven limestone peaks rising from the lake, forming a landscape straight out of a painting. Visitors can stroll along the lake, boat on the water, explore caves, or admire cliff inscriptions. The wetland park is a haven for birdwatchers, famous for its "Crane Dance" spectacle and the rare natural phenomenon "Reclining Buddha Holding the Sun" during equinoxes. Meanwhile, Dinghu Mountain, one of Guangdong's four famous mountains, boasts pristine forests, clear waterfalls, and exceptionally high negative oxygen ion levels—a true natural oxygen bar. The ancient Qingyun Temple nestled in the mountains adds a touch of serenity and depth.

Dubbed the "Guangdong Gulangyu," this artistic village by Xinghu Lake features white-walled houses converted into cozy cafés, bookshops, boutique homestays, and restaurants. A walk along the lakeside trail at sunset or under the glittering night lights offers a perfect escape to slow down and soak in the serene views.

Through the lens of these international travelers, Zhaoqing reveals itself not just as a scenic destination but as an authentic and refreshing experience, one that invites the world to discover its understated charm.
