On May 31, the 7th Xinyi Dragon Boat Championship was held in the Jinjiang River at the Hanzhang Bridge section, with 26 dragon boat teams fiercely competing on the glistening waters.
Following a traditional lion dance performance and the eye-dotting ceremony, colorfully painted dragon boats shot forward like arrows, cutting through the waves. A total of 780 athletes rowed in unison as crowds lined the riverbanks, cheering them on.
"This is what the Dragon Boat Festival should be like!" exclaimed Ms. Zhang, who had brought her child to watch the races. "The dragon boat races allow us to experience the most authentic festive atmosphere." Many young people raised their phones to capture the thrilling moments of the competition, sharing their Dragon Boat Festival joy on social media.
After several intense rounds of racing, the Xinyi Education System Dragon Boat Team claimed the championship.
Since its inaugural event in 1998, the Xinyi Dragon Boat Festival races have been successfully held seven times.
