Golden horse welcomes spring: Huizhou's Lantern Festival comes to life

On March 1, the "Golden Horse Welcomes Spring" Lantern Festival Parade, a grand celebration of intangible cultural heritage, was held in Huizhou, China.

This year celebrates the spirit of the Year of the Horse—energetic, courageous, surging. Over 1,300 performers, 44 teams, and nearly 40 representative heritage and folk traditions are parading through the streets. At the parade, drums thundered, lions leaped, and dragons soared. You'll see centuries-old rituals revived here, such as Yingge dance, Wuchuan piaose parade, bamboo horse dance, and lantern horse dance.

But it's not just the performances—it's the people. Elders smiled and nodded at familiar rhythms. Children sat on their parents' shoulders with excitement. Local residents, including lion dance teams, folk artists, and community groups, all joined in the event.

In Huizhou, cultural heritage doesn't stand still. It marches forward—with drums, color, and heart.
