World Athletics Relays Guangzhou 2025 ignite Tianhe Sports Center

The World Athletics Relays Guangzhou 2025 was held at the Tianhe Sports Center from May 10 to May 11, bringing a world-class event featuring speed, teamwork, and national pride to China for the first time.

A total of 727 athletes from 43 countries and regions competed for World Athletics Championships (WAC) qualification in Tokyo and international glory. A packed stadium of residents, athletic fans and international spectators witnessed a thrilling display of athletics with teams competing in the 4x100m, 4x400m, and mixed relays. The event showcased not only athletic excellence but also the shared joy of human connection through sport.

Team China qualified for the WAC in the 4×400m mixed relay, men's 4×100m, and women's 4×100m, setting a new national record in the mixed relay.

The US won the mixed 4x400m relay and broke the world championship record. The Jamaican men's team unexpectedly fell and dropped the baton in the men's 4x100m relay, ultimately missing qualification this time.

Following its upgrade, Tianhe Sports Center will be capable of hosting world-class events in football, volleyball, table tennis, and more during the 15th National Games. As a major international competition held ahead of the Games, the World Athletics Relays serves as a showcase of Guangzhou's modern spirit and vibrant sporting atmosphere.
