The opening ceremony of China's 15th National Games in Guangzhou on the night of November 9th witnessed an unexpected viral sensation: the event's mascots, "Xiyangyang" and "Lerongrong," won over audiences with their playful and lively antics, quickly becoming internet favorites.

Designed based on the Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin, an emblem of the region, the mascots charmed spectators with their oversized heads, tiny waddling steps, and "social butterfly" personalities. Adorned with splash-shaped decals in red, purple, and green, symbolizing the unity of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, they were dubbed "sprouting with cuteness" by online fans.

From dancing and handstands to wagging tails and spontaneous transformations, the mascots showcased non-stop energy both on and off the stage, even turning a small poolside area into an impromptu playground. Their humorous and flexible performances quickly earned them the title of "attention magnets."

Behind these delightful performances lies a group of dedicated "post-00s" students from Foshan's Wong Fei Hung International School. To bring the mascots to life, these young performers trained tirelessly in challenging conditions.

According to the head coach of the mascot team, each costume weighs nearly four kilograms. Under the scorching summer heat, with temperatures often reaching 40°C, the performers endured repeated sweat-drenched rehearsals from July through November. To perfect the dolphin-like movements, they practiced spins, jumps, and arm swings in front of mirrors up to 2,000 times a day.

Netizens were quick to applaud the young performers once their identities were revealed. "So this adorable charm comes from these 'little brothers'—total respect!" one comment read.

As youthful energy met athletic spirit, one of the most heartwarming scenes of the National Games was not only the fierce competition but also the dedicated efforts of every individual contributing to the event's success.

Let's cheer for these young performers and salute all who strive with passion and perseverance!
