Australian scholar: Australia can learn from China's approach to ethnic affairs

Australia can learn from China's approach to supporting ethnic minority communities during its modernization, Peter Yu, vice president of the Australian National University, said in an interview with South at the APEC Economies China Studies Scholars Forum held in Guangzhou on June 12.

Reflecting on the ongoing challenges faced by Indigenous Australians, including the lasting impacts of colonization, he noted that China has made notable progress in promoting social advancement, supporting marginalized communities, strengthening community care, and preserving cultural traditions.

He added that culture plays a central role in fostering mutual understanding and equitable development, and that China's experience offers valuable insights for countries seeking more inclusive paths to modernization.
