"With its strong research base and scientific capacity, Guangzhou can act as a regional innovation and demonstration hub for biodiversity-positive agriculture," Yuan Derun, senior programme officer at the Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia-Pacific, told South in Guangzhou on February 6.
He is attending the First Senior Officials' Meeting and Related Meetings (SOM1) of APEC China 2026, being held in the southern Chinese city from February 1 to 10.
Yuan noted that Guangzhou is home to a large number of research institutions and outstanding scientists working on agricultural development and biodiversity, providing a solid foundation for innovation.
He said the city is well-positioned to pilot biodiversity-positive and sustainable agricultural models, and to scale up and share this knowledge and experience with other regions.
