7-year-old girl's Yingge dance named one of 2026 Guangdong int'l communication best stories

On August 2, Guangdong officially released its 2026 list of top international-communication cases. Among the honorees: 7-year-old Zhuang Enqi from Shantou, recognized for her Yingge dance.

Videos of Enqi performing Yingge alongside a full dance troupe go viral online, racking up millions of views and catching the attention of audiences overseas, many of whom were seeing this centuries-old art form for the first time. The sudden attention turned the young girl into an unlikely icon of Chinese folk culture almost overnight.

Today, Enqi is recognized as one of the youngest inheritors of this intangible cultural heritage, carrying on a tradition passed down for generations. Through her dedication and passion, she's helping introduce Yingge, a piece of China's cultural heritage, to a global audience.
